Jodie Shield, MEd, RD
Jodie Shield, MED, RD, has been a consultant and spokesperson in the field of nutrition for over two decades. A former national media spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association (1989-1995), she has worked extensively with the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center and taught nutrition and medical dietetics at the University of Illinois. Currently she is a complemental faculty member of the College of Health Sciences in the Department of Clinical Nutrition at Rush University in Chicago.
Shield is Senior Partner at JM & Associates, Inc., a nutrition communications firm. She has developed numerous consumer education materials and programs, participated in new product ideation sessions, evaluated recipe contests and provided strategic counsel to a roster of blue chip clients. Shield is co-author of the American Dietetic Association's Guide to Healthy Eating For Kids (John Wiley and Sons, 2002) and Childhood and Adolescent Overweight: A Health Professional's Guide To Identification, Treatment, and Prevention (American Dietetic Association, 2003).
Additionally, Shield has authored over 500 articles for consumer magazines and professional journals such as: The Chicago Tribune, Ladies' Home Journal, Healthy Kids, American Baby, Shape Magazine's Fit Pregnancy, American Health, Weight Watchers Magazine, Reader's Digest, Restaurant's and Institutions and the Journal of the American Dietetic Association. She also has written several online articles and authored columns such as Ask the Nutritionist for Disney and Ask the Nutritionist for Beansprout.net. Shield provides nutrition analysis for the Chicago Tribune and the Baltimore Sun. In 1998 she was selected "Outstanding Dietitian of the Year" by both the Illinois Dietetic Association and the Chicago Dietetic Association.
Jodie Shield lives in the Chicago area with her husband and three children, Jennifer, J.J., and Michael.
