Make 'Cents' of Your Summer Treats. Almost half of moms (46%) report their grocery bills go up in the summer.

Moms want more from their summer snacks - 92% of moms say they are interested in finding healthy snack alternatives.

Kids are missing out on opportunities to drink in more nutrition - moms report fruit drinks (56%) and slushies (43%) among their children's top summertime drinks. Milk contains nine essential nutrients and is a true bargain at less than $.25 a glass.

More than half of moms (57%) buy summery treats at the grocery store, but making cool treats at home like a Banana Delight smoothie can save money and pack a nutritional punch!

Finding healthy ways to help kids beat the heat can be tough, but now moms face another challenge: selecting nutritious treats that won't burn a hole in their wallets. We polled more than 1,000 moms across the U.S. with our new "Summer Sipper Survey." With price, nutrition and taste as the driving factors in summer snack selections for families, the answer is right in the refrigerator - at less than 25 cents per 8-ounce glass, on a gallon basis, milk offers more nutrients per penny than almost any other beverage option in the supermarket, especially considering all the liquid assets inside.

The American Academy Pediatrics (AAP) encourages families to stay active by finding things to do outdoors. Recent studies have indicated that even a fairly small amount of time outside can sharpen kids’ ability to focus, lower childhood obesity rates, establish a connection to nature and allow youths to use their imagination and engage in free play for entertainment.
