Research Supports Milk's Role in Weight Loss

Obesity Research
(04/2004)

A study published in the April 2004 issue of Obesity Research found that people who ate 3-4 servings of milk or milk products each day on a reduced-calorie diet lost an average of 24 pounds in 24 weeks -- significantly more than those who also reduced calories but consumed little or no milk. This research is the latest study to provide evidence that milk may help people lose more weight and fat. How? Researchers say calcium plays a role in the body's natural system for burning fat. Studies have found that as calcium goes up, weight and fat go down. The unique mix of nutrients in milk, including calcium and protein, appears to speed up metabolism and improve the body's ability to burn fat.
